About Madikeri

Madikeri, once called Mercara, is the main town of Kodagu (Coorg), a hilly district of coffee plantations, forests and mist. It is the home of the Kodava people, known for their distinctive culture, cuisine and military tradition.

Raja's Seat, Abbey Falls, Madikeri Fort and the Omkareshwara Temple are in or near town. Talakaveri, the source of the Kaveri, the Dubare elephant camp and the Tibetan Golden Temple at Bylakuppe are within an hour or two.
