About Palani

Palani is a temple town at the foot of the Palani Hills, and its Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple is one of the six abodes of Murugan. The temple stands on a hill above the town and is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Tamil Nadu.

Pilgrims climb about 700 steps, or take the winch railway or rope car to the top. The biggest crowds come for Thai Poosam and Panguni Uthiram. The temple's panchamirtham, a sweet offering, is a popular take-home. Kodaikanal is about two hours up the ghat road, and Dindigul is about an hour east.
