About Namakkal

Namakkal is the headquarters of Namakkal district and is known as Egg City for its poultry farms, as well as for its many truck and lorry businesses. A rock fort stands in the middle of the town.

Below the fort, the Anjaneyar Temple has an 18-foot statue of Hanuman, and the Narasimha cave temple is cut into the same rock. The Kolli Hills, reached by a road with seventy hairpin bends, offer viewpoints and the Agaya Gangai waterfall. Namakkal sits between Salem and Karur on the road to Madurai.
